SHANNON AIRPORT TAXI REHABILITATION

Client: Joint Venture: Breedon Construction/Clare Civil Engineering

Location: Co. Clare, Ireland

Value:

The Shannon Airport runway rehabilitation was one of the most significant runway projects anywhere on the island of Ireland. As Ireland’s third largest airport, Shannon has seen a significant increase in passenger numbers year on year since 2013 and it represents an important catalyst for the development of long-term international business links and tourism for the region.

This project involved 30,000 tonnes of 0/32mm DBM Base, 0/20mm Marshall Asphalt Binder and 0/14 Marshall Asphalt Surface Course. It was also challenging and complex, as the works had to be limited to short time periods every night so that the runway could be handed back to the airport before normal daily operations recommenced. This was to ensure there would be no impact on any scheduled services at the airport for the duration of the works.

The successful delivery of this project was achieved through detailed planning of all activities including logistics, material requirements, manpower, plant requirements and contingency plans.
